How to Play Beer Pong

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Few games are so well-known and well-liked across college campuses as Beer Pong, which is also known as Beirut. While technically a drinking game, beer pong requires a great deal of skill and a little luck, and it can be enjoyed by just about anybody of legal age. Want to master the art of beer pong? Read on.

Steps

  1. Beer pong can be played one-on-one or with teams of two.
  2. Fill the 6 16-oz plastic cups with beer. Open two cans of beer per side and use them to fill each cup about a third of the way. If you have fewer or more cups, you can use varying amounts of beer.
  3. Prepare a water cup. While sanitation isn't exactly the cornerstone of beer pong, nobody wants to drink a tainted cup of beer.
  4. Set up the cups. Arrange the plastic cups into a 6-cup or 10-cup triangle at each end of the table.
  5. Determine who goes first. Many games are started by a member of each team playing rock, paper, scissors.
  6. Throw the balls into cups. The person or team going first attempts to throw a ball across the length of the table and into the cups of the opposing person or team. In some variations, the ball must be lobbed (not bounced), into the cup, but in others you can bounce the ball off the table and into the cup. Usually the opposing team can catch or swat away a ball that has bounced once on the table. Usually, a bounced ball that lands in a cup is worth two cups. Typically two balls can be thrown each turn. After the turn is completed, the other team throws at the first team's cup, and the process repeats.
  7. Remove cups. When a ball lands in a cup, that cup is removed from the table, and the team to whom the cup belongs must drink the contents of the cup. The remaining cups stay in their places, Usually, each team is allowed two "re-racks" per game, in which the opposing team is required to rearrange their cups in a pattern such as a diamond or a sword, making it easier to make shots.
  8. Bring back. When you and your partner both make the same cup in a turn,it's worth 3 cup's. then it's balls back.
  9. Touching the ball If you or your partner touch the ball before it goes into a cup or hits the table, the person that shot the ball gets the ball back.
  10. Keep throwing or hitting until one team has no more cups remaining. The object of the game is make a ball in each of your opponent's cups.
  11. the babe ruth- Advanced Players In this version of Beer Pong you call out which cup you are going to hit to make your opponent drink. If you hit the cup you called you get the ball back (2 or more cups only), if you miss play goes on as normal. if it goes in the wrong cup it counts as a miss, the cup stays on the table. after a team has made all their cups the opposing team gets a last turn, if 1 or both make their balls in a cup they keep shooting until they miss at which time the game is over. if they make all their cups a 3 cup overtime is played. starting with R,P,S again.
  12. Also, in most situations it is frowned upon if the ball is spinning in a cup to blow it out, unless you are a girl. Known as "Bitches Blow."

Tips

  • For all-ages fun, or to avoid the harm of too much alcohol, replace the beer with a non-alcoholic beverage. Apple cider is a good alternative, as its taste is somewhat similar to wine.
  • Always aim for a specific cup. Even when you're throwing at large groups early in the game, if you do not aim for a single target then you will never get any better!
  • There are many, many variations of beer pong or Beirut. For details and rules on several of these, check the internet.
  • In many games, the players can designate a "foul line" beyond which a player's hand (or elbow) may not pass when he or she is throwing the ball. This foul line is often designated as the edge of the table.
  • While everyone should develop their own style, the easiest way for beginners is often to put your shooting hand on a 90 degree angle and to ensure your arm goes straight when you throw.
  • If you are playing bounce, fake distractions behind people and then simply bounce it easily into their cups.
  • Make sure that your partner is good so that you don't have to make all the cups
  • Don't be overconfident because you are playing a girl, some are very good.
  • Designate a table specifically for playing beer pong,ie. island floaters.
  • The largest factor in having a good technique is that you follow through. Your hand should not just release the ball into the air, but follow it through all the way into the cup that you're aiming at.
  • Don't stand close to the table when your opponent is shooting. If you stand too close to the table you give them a better perception of distance, and it will be easier for them to sink a cup.
  • Always be ready to swat away a bounce.

Warnings

  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.
  • Always remember to obey all laws and regulations regarding alcoholic beverages.
  • In most variations, if your team is down to one cup and the opponent makes a ball in that cup, you have a chance to save the game from being a loss. This is called a 'rebuttal'. Each Player on the now losing side gets to shoot until they miss. If the losing team sinks all cups it is no longer a loss and goes into 'overtime'. Overtime consists of a smaller set of cups then the original game. This is usually 3 cups for a 6 and 10 cup game.
  • A popular house rule is the "Party Cup Rule". Once the ball touches beer in a cup it is considered a party cup until there is no beer left in that cup. If at any time the opposing team sinks your Party Cup you lose the game. This also includes your side beer.
  • Always drink responsibly.
